What to add to your trolley:

  • 6 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 large leeks, cleaned and sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • 1½ cups cream (or milk with a splash of cream)
  • 1 tsp thyme (dried or fresh)
  • 1½ cups grated cheese (cheddar, gouda, or a mix)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Optional: a sprinkle of nutmeg for depth


How to prepare the deliciousness:

1. Preheat the oven to 180°C

2. Prepare the Base:

In a pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add garlic and leeks, sautéing until soft and fragrant (about 5 - 7 minutes). Season lightly with salt, pepper, and thyme.

3. Layer the Dish:

In a greased baking dish, layer half the sliced potatoes. Top with half the leek mixture and half the cheese. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, leeks, and cheese. Pour the cream evenly over the whole dish. 

4. Bake:

Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for another 20 minutes, or until golden and bubbling.

5. Serve:

Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
